A banda de K-Pop BTS foi a grande vencedora do American Music Awards no domingo, apenas quatro anos depois de fazer sua primeira aparição no evento em que os fãs escolhem os vencedores.
A banda sul-coreana de sete membros venceu a veterana Taylor Swift, o rapper Drake, a cantora pop Ariana Grande, a fenômeno adolescente Olivia Rodrigo e o canadense The Weeknd pelo maior prêmio da noite –o de artista do ano.
Adorados por um exército de fãs fervorosos, eles também venceram o prêmio de grupo pop favorito dos fãs e ganharam como melhor canção pop por seu sucesso de verão “Butter”.
A banda sul-coreana encerrou o evento com uma apresentação de “Butter” e antes se juntou ao Coldplay no palco para uma apresentação de seu single “My Universe”, marcando um retorno pós-pandêmico às apresentações ao vivo para a banda de K-pop.
Swift estava entre os vários artistas cotados para vencer o prêmio, incluindo Ariana Grande, The Weeknd e Drake, que não compareceram à cerimônia de domingo.
Ela venceu os troféus de artista feminina favorita e de melhor álbum pop para seu álbum “Evermore”, feito durante o lockdown para conter a pandemia de Covid-19.
“Tenho tanta sorte de estar na vida de vocês, e de ter vocês na minha”, disse Swift aos fãs em um discurso de aceitação dos prêmios transmitido por vídeo.
Apresentadora de primeira viagem do evento, Cardi B fez uma série de trocas extravagantes de figurino e confessou que estava preocupada em estragar tudo.
“Estou um pouco nervosa. Estou tremendo”, disse a rapper de “Bodak Yellow”, ostentando um vestido de penas pretas, quando ela abriu o evento.
Rodrigo, de 18 anos, que entrou nas paradas em janeiro, chegou à premiação de domingo indicada a sete prêmios, mas acabou levando apenas um, o de melhor artista novo.
